Kavir block is located in northern part of the Central Iran basin. NIOC is offering 1 block in this area.
Kavir block is a part of the central Iran basin.The sedimentation and structural evolution of the area is highly controlled by basement faults. The general structural trend is approximately NE-SW to W-E which mainly formed either by transpressive mechanism or compressional events.
|The main target in Central Iranian Basin is the Oligocene- Miocene Qom Formation. The Qom Formation predominately consists of limestone, marl, shale, sandstone and gypsum charged by organic rich parts of the Qom Formation and sealed by evaporitic beds of the Upper Red Formation.
Four structural traps have been identified in Kavir block. drilling results of Sorkheh structure in 1958 cuncluded in small amounts of oil&gas production.
